Alice Yip Wai Ping Biography

Born in Hong Kong, she started learning piano at the age of 8.    Despite having autism, she had been willing to pay a lot more time than the ordinary people to enhance her ability of piano performance.  After her high school graduation, she had been teaching piano to afford the tuition fee of her private piano study.  In 2008, she obtained Fellowship Diploma in Piano Performance from the Trinity College of London and was invited to attend the ceremony in London. 

In view of her teaching, fellowship diploma piano and competition achievements, she was accepted exceptionally to study for the Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Performance for 2 years without Undergraduate Degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I successfully graduated in 2013.   Her teachers include Richard McMahon, Frances Angell, Silvije Vidovic.  She used to study with Silvije Vidovic, but she is self-taught now.

She has extensive teaching experience such as teenagers, adults, the retired people and even the autistic people.  In addition to her private teaching, she also taught the special needs in Heep Hong Society, (An organization of autism), and trying to use her own learning experience to help them.  Many of her students got excellent results in piano exams and local competitions.  The most impressive she felt was that her autistic student won Excellent Performance Award in Music, apart from her students’ excellent results in piano examinations and local competitions such as Third Prize at Hong Kong Asia Piano Open Competition, Obtaining Licentiate Diploma at their young ages and her personal Honor Teacher Award. 

Her competition achievements include Special Mention for Talent Accomplished Pianist and Accomplished Pianist at IBLA Music Competition in 2005, Honour Teacher Award at the 16th Hong Kong Asia Piano Open Competition in 2011, Distinction in the Recital Class and Premier Challenge Cup at North London Festival of Music, Drama and Dance Competition and the EPTA Piano Competition in 2013, Bronze Prize in Young Artist Category at the Hong Kong Japan International Music Competition and Certificate of Jury’s Recognition at the Panmusica Vienna International Piano Competition in 2016, Honorable Mention at the 2nd Danube Concerto Masterclass and Competition with Danube Symphony Orchestra in Budapest and Honorable Mention for a notable performance in the semi-final round of the 4th Karlovac International Piano Competition in 2017.  Recently, she has obtained the Third Prize of the Senior Group in the Golden Classical Music Award International Competition 2020 and was invited to perform Chopin Etude No.1 at the Weill Recital Hall of New York Carnegie Hall on 9th March, 2020.  Unfortunately, she cannot attend this recital because of the outbreak of Coronavirus.
